Yang Bingyi, born in China's Shanxi Province, fled to Taiwan in the wake of the country's political and social upheaval. Yang Bingyi began a small oil company in Taiwan before focusing on food and opening Din Tai Fung in 1972.

Din Tai Fung did not gain international acclaim until the 1990s, initially with Japanese tourists and then with visitors from all over the world. Yang Bingyi's meticulous attention to detail was crucial to the restaurant's success. Every detail had to be flawless to make a perfect soup dumpling, from the quality of the meat to the steaming time to the number of folds, which had to be exactly 16 grams each.

Yang Bingyi, the founder of Din Tai Fung, sadly passed away today, March 26, 2023. Yang Bingyi's legacy lives on through the restaurant chain he established, which has received numerous accolades, including a coveted Michelin star in Hong Kong. Yang Bingyi's memory will be remembered as a visionary entrepreneur and culinary artist, thanks to the restaurant's red logo with white writing, excellent service, and skilfully crafted food. Sir, your legacy continues on through your delicious food.

Yang Bingyi, rest in peace.

It is a sad day for any foodie on the globe who has enjoyed the delights that Yang Bingyi has placed on our plates. All I can say is that the food is still available at Din Tai Fung, a worldwide legacy that he has left for us all. Sir, believe me, my family and I will continue to devour those delectable morsels.

Mr. Yang Bingyi left behind a meticulous process for making soup dumplings, down to the exact weight and number of folds. Din Tai Fung grew into a global chain under his guidance, with locations in the United States, Japan, and Australia. The restaurant is well-known throughout the globe for its paper-thin wrapped xiao long bao with 18 folds, and its Hong Kong branch has been awarded a Michelin star.

Mr. Yang Bingyi's gift to the culinary world, as well as the success of Din Tai Fung, will be remembered and honoured by food enthusiasts worldwide. Our sympathies are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.

Thank you very much, Sir.
