The Gyu Bar is bringing sake enjoyment to a whole new level. Located along Stevens Road, the contemporary dining bar delivers the Kagami Biraki (鏡開き) experience to Singapore.
This time-honoured tradition is a ceremonial opening of a sake cask, carried out as a blessing for prosperity, good health and wealth. Kagami refers to the lid of a sake barrel and biraki means ‘to open’ — Kagami Biraki translates literally to ‘opening the lid’.
From 15 April, diners can sip on their favourite sake bottle (720ml) in high spirits at The Gyu Bar. Available upon request, each order of sake will have the beverage served in a customary sake barrel, including a mallet for diners to break the lid. The experience comprises two complimentary restaurant-branded wooden masu sake cups, subject to availability.
Lovers of sake can expect a wide selection at the bar. A crowd favourite is the delicate Mizubasho sui Junmai Dai Ginjo ($118++ for a 720ml bottle), which appeals to both beginners and seasoned sake enthusiasts. Another highlight is Nabeshima Daiginjo 35% ($220++ for a 720ml bottle), a premium sake that was named Champion at the International Wine Challenge 2011. The ‘Champion Sake’ was brewed from superior Yamadanishiki rice from a specially designated Grade A region in Hyogo. The drink boasts fruity notes of citrus and green apple.
Be it for a birthday, an anniversary, corporate gathering, or a special occasion that calls for a celebration, make it an unforgettable experience and partake in the Kagami Biraki ceremony at The Gyu Bar.
The Gyu Bar’s special Kagami Biraki promotion is available from 15 April 2023 for dine-in only, during lunch (12pm to 3pm) and dinner (6pm to 10pm) sessions. Reservations are required. Reservations may be placed via phone at +65 6732 0702 or +65 9150 3164, or via email to [email protected].
