As part of Amara Hotels & Resorts' comprehensive refurbishment of its two Singapore properties, Amara Sanctuary Sentosa's refurbished interiors usher in a new era of tranquilly on Sentosa Island. This revitalization project, spearheaded by the renowned cross-disciplinary design studio FARM, beautifully combines contemporary aesthetics with biophilic features. The renovation, inspired by Sentosa Island's maritime past and the estate's century-long legacy, emphasises the use of natural materials such as local stone, venerable lumber, and recovered wood from traditional fishing vessels.

The redesigned spaces at Amara Sanctuary Sentosa incorporate rich plant life, transforming formerly underutilised places into tranquil retreats for peaceful contemplation. This precise selection of natural materials and vegetation reflects the island's lush surroundings, reinforcing a connection to nature. The magnificent foyer is the focal point of this renovation, with an ethereal skylight creating a mesmerising play of light and shadow. At its core is a majestic four-meter Pithecellobium Confertum 'Everfresh Tree' with Davallia Fejeensis shrubs, which represents nature's peaceful splendour.

Dawn Teo, Chief Operating Officer at Amara Holdings Limited, emphasises the company's dedication to maintaining the property's legacy. The updated design concept not only remains relevant for future generations, but it also appeals to travellers seeking tranquillity in nature in a fast-paced world. The remodelled lobby encourages interaction among travellers while providing cosy places for periods of relaxation. Plans for retail potential in the lobby space aim to provide distinctive takeout products that represent the character of the Amara brand and its locations.

The biophilic design approach extends throughout the newly renovated Villas and Suites, creating a fluid air of nature-inspired refinement throughout the resort. The transition between outdoor and inside spaces is smooth, with flowers and vegetation evoking tranquillity and respite among guests. Abundant planters enhance the surroundings, while outdoor courtyards and foyers provide nooks with daybeds, settees, hammocks or bar tables, inviting guests to bask in the sun's warmth and colonial architecture.

It was a pleasure to be a part of reopening celebrations for the newly refurbished Amara Sanctuary Resort on Sentosa.  With the days of staycations still fondly planted in my mind from COVID times, I was excited to see the new concept launched for this hotel.  Sentosa already feels like a little holiday from Singapore and this new Amara plays on this!  The common areas and rooms are nestled in layers of greenery, through which you get little peeks of the Singapore skyline.  You could easily be tucked into a tropical resort on an island much more exotic than the Little Red Dot.   The Amara have maintained the original colonial style architecture and added touches of Bali-esque glamour through the décor.  Think natural woods, rattan, neutral colours!  All of the rooms felt opulent but still accessible.  My favourite room included a plunge pool in your very private courtyard, along with a pet bed for your furry friends.

We were also treated to some food and drinks served in the Sanctuary Tea Room.  The restaurant flows from inside to out seamlessly and continues the same colour palate and materials used within the hotel rooms.  Food was a blend of east and west, executed deftly with the highlight certainly being the char-ry strips of medium rare beef that were cooked to perfection on an open grill.  Signature cocktails made with the Amara’s own blend of tea rounded out what was a thoroughly enjoyable night!  Quick shout out also to the Amara Sanctuary Resort staff who not only provided great service but also looked like they loved their jobs – a rare occurrence in hospitality these days.  If you are looking for a staycation or a meal with a tropical vibe then I would definitely recommend the Amara Sanctuary Resort.  PS you can see awesome photos of the rooms in main article above – mine did them no justice at all 😊
