Golden Years (gold whop whop whop)

Published - 19 January 2022, Wednesday

Ground Control to Major Addictees! Take your protein pills and put your helmet on friends as we celebrate what would have been David Bowie's 75th birthday (8 January 1947).

It's been a monster week for Ziggy Stardust whose estate just sold his publishing catalogue to Warner Chappell for a secret squirrel amount (sources told Variety that the deal, which includes Bowie’s “entire body of work”, was worth more than $250 million).

But wait, there's more! New Bowie album TOY:BOX was recently released on vinyl and CD. The album was recorded in 2001, leaked online in 2011 and, from David Bowie's official Instagram account: "nineteen years later we’re pleased to announce a Bowie75 special edition of TOY on cassette." The TOY cassette is a one-off run of 10,000.

If you don't know what a cassette is, please Google it. Cassettes were life and don't get us started on the best thing ever - mixtapes! Especially mixtapes made from recording songs off the radio and hitting the pause/stop button just before the DJ talked over the ending. Praise be! We had mad skillz back then.

So where do we fit in to all this? Glad you asked.

Enter Casa Addicted artist, Markus Klinko.

In 2001 award-winning international fashion/celebrity photographer and director Markus Klinko spent 8 hours in his New York studio with David Bowie shooting images for David's Heathen album cover. The shoot produced an epic cover and numerous photos of Bowie, which have become the Bowie Unseen series.

A little about Addicted...

Our aim at Addicted Art Gallery is to connect you to art in a friendly, posh-less, non-highbrow way.

Over the years we have developed a love for all different types of art and that is what we want Addicted Art Gallery to reflect. As a result, we have divided our art into three broad categories

Our diverse portfolio includes; Contemporary Art, with a predominantly South East Asian focus; Urban and Pop Art, featuring well known and highly respected artists whose works will make you think, laugh and question; and lastly, there are our beautiful Vintage Posters and Art Deco inspired works which will transport you to a different time.

We hope you enjoy what our Gallery has to offer and encourage everyone to get Addicted too.
