For over 25 years, Sunleaf Shutters have been made predominantly from two types of wood — American Ashwood and American Pinewood.
Both of these are imported directly from North America. Notably, all our Ashwood are sustainably harvested from managed forests in the United States. Both American Ashwood and American Pinewood are very straight woods, minimising the risk of warping. Hence, this allows our shutter panels and frames to be crafted slim and sleek, yet remain sturdy.
Being a hardwood, American Ashwood has an extensive history in American furniture making and is known for its remarkable durability. Additionally, natural wood lovers are aware of the deep-set grain in woods such as American Ash. This makes for beautiful nooks, lines and curves, especially prevalent when the wood is stained.
Sunleaf Shutters’ premium wood pieces are first kiln-dried to remove every trace of moisture then hand-coated with anti-termite and anti-wood rot treatment imported from the United States to ensure every piece is of premium quality. Sunleaf Shutters’ wooden shutters are treated with utmost care and respect, promising a lifespan of minimally 20 to 30 years with minimal maintenance needed.
