Dr Puah's expertise stems from his extensive training and academic achievements. He graduated from the prestigious Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore, and completed his residency training as part of the pioneer batch of SingHealth Orthopaedic Surgery Residents. With a passion for continuous learning, Dr Puah participated in the Singapore Chief Residency Programme, a renowned healthcare leadership training initiative, where he was ranked as one of the Top 3 SingHealth Chief Residents across different specialties in 2015.
Dedicated to honing his skills and staying at the forefront of orthopaedic advancements, Dr Puah has undergone specialized training worldwide. He gained valuable experience as a Visiting Scholar at Tulane University School of Medicine, Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, focusing on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Arthroscopy, and Sports Medicine. Additionally, he completed a prestigious Shoulder and Upper Limb Fellowship under the guidance of Dr Laurent Lafosse at Alps Surgery Institute, Clinique Générale d'Annecy, Annecy, France. Being the only Singaporean trained by Dr Lafosse, a renowned pioneer in shoulder surgery, Dr Puah brings unparalleled expertise to his practice.
Dr Puah's pursuit of excellence also took him to hospitals and medical centers across the globe. He participated in a Joint Fellowship on Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at the esteemed 301 Hospital in Beijing, China, and a Visiting Surgeon Program on Elbow Repair & Elbow Arthroscopy at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea. Furthermore, he gained valuable insights and knowledge during his observership at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Duke University, Durham, USA. Dr Puah's commitment to learning and sharing knowledge led him to undertake attachments to the Section of Shoulder Surgery and Section of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas Hospital in Manila, Philippines.
In addition to his clinical pursuits, Dr Puah is deeply committed to medical education and leadership development. He has held academic appointments at renowned medical institutions, including the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore, Duke-NUS Medical School, and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Dr Puah has also actively contributed to the training of future orthopaedic professionals as a faculty member in the SingHealth Orthopaedic Residency Training Programme and Core Faculty for the SingHealth PGY1 Programme.
Dr Puah's dedication to his field extends beyond the clinic. He has held various roles within the Singapore Orthopaedic Association, including Honorary Secretary and Scientific Chair for the association's Annual Scientific Meeting. Furthermore, he has served as a Speciality Board Member in the Chapter of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore. Dr Puah's commitment to community welfare is evident through his volunteer work with the Handicaps Welfare Association, and he continues to serve as a Reservist Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Singapore Armed Forces.
