Breast cancer is the primary cause of cancer-related fatalities among Singaporean women. To battle this terrible disease, the 365 Cancer Prevention Society (365CPS) has established the #My1stMammo programme, which provides free mammography tests to eligible women aged 40 and over who hold a valid blue or orange CHAS card. The campaign began in 2021 and has been extended until June 30, 2024. It seeks to promote early detection and quick intervention in order to improve the odds of effective treatment.

Breast cancer accounts for about 30% of all cancer diagnoses among women in Singapore, making it the most frequent cancer and the leading cause of cancer death. Breast cancer risk factors include age, family history, certain illnesses, and hormone replacement therapy. Breast cancer is often asymptomatic in its early stages, thus regular mammograms are critical for early detection.

Mr. Andrew Soh, Assistant Director for Fundraising, Marketing, and Volunteer Management at 365CPS, emphasises the importance of early detection, pointing out that it significantly improves survival rates. "We encourage all women to take control of their health and overcome the odds. "With early detection and treatment, breast cancer survivors can live fulfilling and happy lives," he stated.

The screening programme is a collaboration with 365CPS and Icon Cancer Centre, with backing from a variety of community groups, medical partners, and social sector agencies. Interested parties can register for #My1stMammo from now until June 15, 2024. Registration is available through 365CPS community partners and on the organization's website.

Beyond free screenings, the #My1stMammo campaign relies on public donations to fund mammography screenings for low-income women. Donations can be made through platforms such as Giving.sg and Give.asia, with suggested amounts ranging from $30 to $130 for various phases of the screening process. All donations to 365CPS are eligible for a 250% tax deduction, with excess proceeds going towards the society's larger purpose of cancer prevention, treatment, and education.

The 365 Cancer Prevention Society, founded in 2003, seeks to promote awareness about cancer-related disorders and provide comprehensive support to those afflicted. It operates Social Service Centres, which provide a friendly atmosphere for cancer survivors, carers, and their families to exchange personal stories and learn how to manage and prevent cancer.
