Great place to read and take respite from the heat. There are some art displays at certain levels. Take time to explore each level and catch up on your readings!
As a recent Singapore transplant who is an avid reader but does not like to purchase books, I paid a visit to the National Library. At the stroke of 10 am, the doors opened and the long line of people were met by a virtual receiving line of employees. A friendly man escorted me thru the process, even after I told him I was in a hurry to get to a lecture upstairs. Am looking forward to using this resource on a regular basis. Only negative was the $58 annual fee (a bit steep by USA standards, but still a deal!)

A lovely library! Huge selection with a handy 24 hour drop off for your books! (there's also one inside).
(there's a much bigger selection of movies and music at the Esplanade branch)

Little known fact: you can reserve any book from the NLB system online or through their app, and pick it up at your closest branch for $1.55. Some of them keep the reserved books in a locker that you access with your IC or library card, so you can even pick it up during non-business hours. Very convenient and fast, we use it all the time.
