Shock Closure of Osteria And Pizzeria Mozza at MBS

Embroiled chef-owner Mario Batali’s popular Singapore outpost reopens 1 August 2018 as Nostra Cucina led by executive chef Peter Birks (pictured) and the very same team from Osteria & Pizzeria Mozza

When Marina Bay Sands announced that Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza, one of its most popular restaurants, is permanently closing its doors on July 27, my heart skipped beat. I for one, love to sit at the Pizzeria Mozza bar, enjoy a crispy thinned based pizza and a few chilled wines with my date, before catching a show the The MasterCard Theatres, just across the way.

The latest allegations of sexual harassment to surface in the wake of the #MeToo movement that swept Hollywood last year has been the catalyst, this time involving celebrity chef and restaurateur Mario Batali who is one half of the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group partnership that co-owns the restaurant at Marina Bay Sands.

Other International concepts in the group at now under fire. Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that three of the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group restaurants in Las Vegas, namely Carnevino Italian Steakhouse, B&B Ristorante and Otto Enoteca e Pizzeria, will also close down on July 27, ( the same day as the closure in Singapore ) following Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s decision to terminate the long standing partnership.

But great news, especially for the die-hard fans of Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza. Come Wednesday 1 August 2018, the current space will reopen as Nostra Cucina (meaning 'our kitchen' in Italian).

A new menu of well-loved Italian Pizzas and Pastas, will be headed by the highly recognized Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza’s executive chef Peter Birks and joining him will be executive pastry chef Ariana Flores. The floor staff including all front of house associated with the pre-existing Osteria and Pizzeria Mozza will continue to great guests as though the change had never happened.

The new menu will articulate regional Italian classics, including tempting new creations such as the simple but flavorsome Tuscan Bean and Cavolo Nero; and sand crab with avocado.
