The secret’s out! CANCHITA Peruvian Cuisine’s latest secret project is an undercover mission to stretch the potential of the humble taco with the first-ever El Taco Secreto in Singapore, a one-time occasion celebrating the potential, diversity and inclusivity of everyone’s favourite tacos.
For the first time, four prominent chefs will be brought together at CANCHITA Peruvian Cuisine by Chefs Daniel and Tamara Chavez and whipping up their ideas of the ideal taco. The chefs’ respective identities will be revealed in due time as they put together the perfect taco based on their background and cooking knowledge.
Clues to their identity can be found in their cooking styles: One has long been a stalwart of Singapore cuisine, cooking up dishes to represent the heritage of the Lion City. The other is one of the most coveted barbecue masters in Singapore with wood and fire encompassing the very elements of his cooking.
Another has made his way from Penang, Malaysia, to Singapore and has recently grown in calibre from one Michelin star to two with the final aim to reach all the stars. The final one is made of heart and body of Japanese precision, fueled by creativity for cuisine in his soul.
They all come together to showcase the versatility of the modest taco as a street snack loved worldwide yet houses within it massive potential in flavour, texture, and cultural inheritance. Here’s proof that all chefs, even non-Latino ones, have it in them to make good, delicious tacos.
A traditional Mexican food consisting of a small hand-sized corn- or wheat-based tortilla topped with a filling, the tortilla is then folded around the filling and eaten by hand. It may traditionally be a Mexican staple but its international renown is ubiquitous as a food that is impactful in flavour, exciting in a variety of renditions and maximum in fun factor suitable for friends’ night out, intimate date nights in and satisfying for a family feast for all occasional. It’s the dream creative outlet for even most non-Latin American chefs!
