New Opening: A Cozy & Fun Bar in Duxton Hill with Unbeatable Happy Hour Deals

Published - 18 April 2018, Wednesday

We love Duxton Hill with its neatly lined up rows of shophouses and fabulous food options. But finding a wallet-friendly bar is not easy here. Aren’t we glad that The Brightside opened shop here?

A bright family-run bar, it is the perfect place for a night out when you have a tight budget. A fun little bright yellow space, the décor is quirky and eclectic with faux-grass floors and garden swing chairs.

The Brightside

Its biggest draw is the happy hour deals - $8 until 8pm for draft beers (Connor’s Stout Porter and Asahi Super Dry), house wines and house pour of your favourite hard liquor. If you’re more of a cocktails-person and lament that happy hours usually don’t include cocktails, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find Pimms Lemonade cocktails on the menu here.

With those prices, it’s a good idea to hit the bar early so you can order well before 8pm. This is not just a watering hole, though. The Brightside takes its food seriously and the kitchen is helmed by Soh Wei Da who worked at Phat Cat Laundry prior to this. Bar bites include sticky chicken wings ($8-$15), spam fries ($7-$12) and seriously addictive Thai fishcakes ($8-$15). If the evening stretches into dinner, you don’t need to head elsewhere as the main course options are tantalising as well. Go greasy with a house burger ($15) or take a walk down the healthy route by ordering the fragrant beef pho ($20).

The Brightside

Even post 8pm, the beverage prices remain affordable at $12 and cocktails are listed at $15 all day long ($12 on Thursdays). The cocktails deserve a try, especially the wickedly named Porn Star Martini made with vanilla vodka, passionfruit juice, lime juice and prosecco (who doesn’t like some bubbly now and then?). Another hit is the Monty Python Cocktail Circus ($40), a set of four sampler cocktails served in test-tubes. Perfect for those who can not make up their mind on which drink to choose.

The Brightside

Weekends are wild at The Brightside with the bottomless bucket deals. From 4pm-10pm every Saturday, you can get free-flow wine, prosecco and beer for two hours along with delicious bar bites to keep the tummy happy. Named after the Monty Python song, ‘Always look on the bright side of life’, this cozy little bar allows you to forget your troubles for a little while and look at all the wonderful things in life.
