Having established itself as Singapore’s “if you know, you know” Spanish eatery, the team at Asador have turned the heat up a notch with their new concept: ‘8 Perfect Strangers’. A game-changing communal dining experience, where strangers become friends over shared plates, laughs, and fiery feasts.
Despite my myriad of flaws, I was fortunate enough to be selected as one such ‘Perfect Stranger’. Eight of us rocked up to Asador to sit around a table and dig into a shared meal together, having never met before. Whether it was down to the warm atmosphere at Asador, the friendly, knowledgeable staff or the shared delight in each dish that was put before us, it did not take long for us to break the proverbial ice.
The evening extended far beyond what I had anticipated as conversation flowed, communalities were found and connections made. We arrived as strangers. We left having set up a WhatsApp group and are still in touch, already setting up our next get-together.
The food – including Jamon Iberico, wagyu beef tartar, suckling pig so tender it is carved tableside with a plate and the can’t-stop-talking-about-it smokey mash was absolutely faultless. Refined but homey, classic but elevated. A standout for all of us were the anchoas- even for those convinced “anchovies aren’t my thing” – it’s one of those dishes you need to try to believe. Each course is paired with stellar wines, making for a truly authentic, soul-stirring social adventure.
After the meal, those so inclined can slide the secret door to discover 60ml – Singapore’s coolest speakeasy bar serving crafted cocktails like the cheeky Reverse Espresso Martini, with just 60ml of spirit per glass. It’s the perfect wrap-up for a night of fire, flavour, and fresh encounters.
