Born amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Cherki is a casual gastro-pub representing the aspects of Singapore to be proud of. The multi-racial, multi-cultural society has its roots in history.
Singapore is one of the essential ports of call along the Silk Road, attracting immigrants from all parts of Asia in search of better prospects. The streams of cultures that rushed in melded together to form the Singapore that we know today.
One of the cultures that emerged was the Peranakans, whose craftsmanship and culinary skills were top-notch. However, their labour-intensive ways and heritage-based teachings have recently declined with globalisation and the Internet.
Bridging this generation gap, Cherki blends past and present, modern and traditional, to bring you modern Peranakan food and uniquely inspired craft cocktails that can both comfort our taste buds with the familiar and satisfy that desire for more.
Cherki seeks to provide an abode that allows customers to unwind and destress amidst delectable comfort food and creative cocktails. The exciting drinks menus ensure that no matter who you are, an office worker looking for a place to relax and enjoy, a foodie looking for the best fare in town, or a tourist looking for an afternoon dip- Cherki is the place for you!
Founded by the people behind Hopscotch, the team behind Cherki is a blend of people from different backgrounds but one commonality, a love for food and drinks and a passion for serving.
The name Cherki originated from an old Peranakan card game which was once popular among the Nyonyas of the past. It was said that many were so addicted to this game that they pawned or sold their jewellery to keep playing it.
Paying homage to this unique aspect of Peranakan culture in Singapore, Cherki hopes it can bring as much fun and entertainment as the Cherki card game brought to the Nyonyas in the past. But unlike the Nyonyas of the past, you don't need to pawn anything to get a meal at this Cherki.
The food at Cherki is a display of flavours that have been perfected over the years. East meets West, with modern elements infused into the cooking. Cherki's food is especially unique in its composition of traditional Peranakan and modern food sensibilities that seek to tickle your taste buds with a fresh sense of nostalgia and a desire for more.
Individuals and groups can rejoice at the menu's variety of dishes catered for the person and for sharing. Items such as the "Flying Cempedak Prawns" and "Baba Stuffed Squid" will leave guests vying for the last piece of scrumptious goodness.
With a whole slew of dishes across three major categories – Small Bites, Sharing Plates, and Mains, there's something for everyone and dishes for any occasion. Each item is meticulously prepared to honour tradition and simplicity yet expresses creativity and flavour.
Cherki aims to facilitate a family-style dining experience reminiscent of the traditional Peranakan "Tok Panjang", where an entire family shares a wide variety of dishes over hearty conversations at a long table. You're in for a treat, and they're excited to have you at Cherki.
At Cherki, they pride themselves on having some of the most unique cocktails in the world.
Just like how Peranakan cuisine has had a massive influence on the uniquely Singaporean food scene, it has shone its light on the cocktails.
Utilising Peranakan elements such as Galangal (Blue Ginger) and Pandan, there's a story behind every aspect and, thus, behind every cocktail. The particular aromas of these herbs and spices are distilled and imbued within your drinks like flecks of edible heritage and culture. Guess the stories behind each cocktail!
Other than spices, the craft cocktails are infused with herbs and unique local flavours, as well as premium spirits and ingredients. The drinks at Cherki are unique and can't be found elsewhere! They have whatever you're looking for, anything from a classic whisky on the rocks to an exotic cocktail full of history.
Singapore's multicultural heritage is one that Cherki is immensely proud to be a part of. That's why they are eager to share this richness of culture and flavours with fellow Singaporeans, consequently boasting the uniquely Singaporean experience to the world! At Cherki, every drink is painstakingly made with love, creativity and pride in order to present you and the next generation of Singaporeans with tastes and flavours that even they will want their children to have a taste of it in the far future.
