Chef-Owner Keirin Buck, recognised for his unique approach to dining at Le Bon Funk, is poised to make a huge impact on the cocktail industry with the introduction of Bar Bon Funk. Buck has partnered with The Lo & Behold Group to offer his famous "never fussy, always tasty" philosophy to this new venture, which will open on August 15 in New Bahru. This new establishment aims to be a lively addition to the community, combining a passion for fine music with a welcoming atmosphere.
Bar Bon Funk marks a new chapter in Buck's restaurant career, following the success of his two Le Bon Funk locations, including the recently opened Holland Village location. Buck's new endeavour hopes to combine craft cocktails with a pleasant, casual atmosphere. "We wanted to create a cocktail bar that feels like visiting a friend's place who happens to be passionate about music," Buck says. His enthusiasm for working with music specialists to build the venue is palpable, particularly the incorporation of a high-fidelity sound system and a carefully curated music selection.
The cocktail program of Bar Bon Funk is led by Head Barman Josiah Chee, who has nearly a decade of expertise at prominent establishments such as Jigger & Pony and Employees Only Singapore. The bar's goal is to combine a variety of techniques—including fermentation, distillation, and clarification—to create beverages that appear basic but are full of flavour. The menu will change every three to six months and include both classic and signature cocktails. Highlights include the Glass of Milk (Hero image), which is inspired by cereal-soaked milk, and the Lean Green Salad, a Mezcal Margarita with a twist.
Bar Bon Funk offers a smartly planned cuisine menu that compliments its alcohol selections. Chef-Owner Keirin Buck and Head Chef Ryan Newman created the menu, which features imaginative bar snacks such as the house-made Baloney Sandwich and velvety Frittelles with Buffalo Ricotta.
Music is key to the Bar Bon Funk experience. The venue was designed in partnership with Fritz Yonathan of Peels Records & Bars and contains high-end McIntosh amplifiers and unique Altec A5 speakers, which add to the entire vibe. Nice Projects designed the venue, which features a mix of stylish and inviting places such as a lively front bar, a comfy lounge and a Private Dining Room for smaller groups.
Wee Teng Wen, Managing Partner at The Lo & Behold Group, described Bar Bon Funk as a nostalgic return to River Valley's vibrant bar culture, which has revitalised the New Bahru region with its dynamic energy. With its official debut on August 15, 2024, Bar Bon Funk is poised to become a must-see destination. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome.
