Buko Nero is a golden oldie, for over 18 years one of the favourite boutique Italian restaurants loved by locals and expats alike, and with reasonable prices, delicious menus and delightful service. Located in the Chinatown district on Tanjong Pagar Road, Buko Nero has stood the test of time. Husband-and-wife duo Oscar and Tracy Pasinato single-handedly run their 20-seat restaurant.
It’s a delight to witness Tracy ( pictured ) manoeuvres from kitchen to dining room, presenting her guests with elegant service while providing a sophisticated interpretation of dishes on the menu and if so required, suggested wine pairings. Chef Oscar’s ( pictured ) approach to food is to keep it as simple as possible, reflecting the influence of the two most important women in his life; his mother (mamma) and his Singaporean wife Tracy.
Try the spaghetti with spicy crab meat and prawns or the tau-kwa tower with sautéed vegetables and Asian dressing. You must book here. It’s highly unlikely you’ll snag a table as a walk-in. A sneaky word of advice though. If you call about 8:45pm of an evening and if you are in the area of Duxton Road or Tanjong Pagar, you may just get a table at the end of service for a late supper.
