Home-grown casual Mexican restaurant, Chimichanga, officially opened its first outlet in the east with an intimate grand opening on 22nd November which was officiated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony graced by guest of honour, H.E. Agustín García-López, Ambassador of Mexico in Singapore.

Established in 2016, Chimichanga has been offering their unique, Singapore-inspired take on traditional Mexican cuisine - infusing elements of Mexican spices and flavours into their cooking but catering to the Singaporean palate, which they define as "Sing-Mex” cuisine. With this opening at Paya Lebar, the brand now has five outlets under Chimichanga and their sister brand, Chimi’s, with plans to open another outlet in 2023.

“Gastronomy has always joined our people, since the XVI century with thanks to the adventurous entrepreneurs aboard of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon, we had a cross-pollination of our cuisines bringing for the first time to Asia staples of Mexican gastronomy such as chillies, tomatoes, avocadoes, cacao among others.

Now we celebrate this entrepreneurial spirit in the form of Chimichanga’s Sing-Mex concept that has found great acceptance in Singapore through good food and great spirits and friendly staff as we will all surely experience at the fifth and latest outlet of the brand,” said H.E. Agustín García-López, Ambassador of Mexico in Singapore.

Chimichanga

Occupying a prime position in the heart of Paya Lebar Quarter, Chimichanga stands parallel to the ever-vibrant PLQ Plaza. Nestled amid various office towers, cool cafes and restaurants, Chimichanga injects a refreshing dose of vibrancy with its energetic presence. Just a stone’s throw away from Paya Lebar MRT interchange station, diners can enjoy the convenience of Chimichanga’s newest location.

Spanning 1,200 square feet, the 90-seat venue is split into two dining spaces – an air-conditioned indoor space and an al-fresco patio. Dressed in a palette of yellow, brown and turquoise with tropical touches, the interior lends a hand in boasting a vibrant yet warm atmosphere.

As you step through the doors of the air-conditioned seating area, the first thing that catches your eye is the highly raved about dining bar, adorned with a fluorescent pink neon donkey, a beloved symbol of the restaurant.

The restaurant’s warm atmosphere is realised through an array of dining seats that caters to different guests: a plush sofa for 4, or low dining tables for party of 5, while the dining bar is perfect for solo diners or even couples while they soak up the buzzing ambience.

Prefer an al-fresco experience? Grab a high table seat or sofa and take a seat at the restaurant’s outdoor seating area, perfect for a casual afternoon or evening nibbles and tipples. The unique architectural design of PLQ's canopy allows the restaurant's patrons to dine outdoors while enjoying the cool breeze and fresh air without direct sunlight.
