It is easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of Singapore, the island city which is a dream for every expat. The best thing about it is the social life which gets you settled in rather quickly. An important part of this socializing is the dining out experience and there are plenty of options you’ll find in your budget.

We at Expat Choice bring you the newest restaurants, bars, and cafes, a part of the ever-evolving palates of the city plus giving you the perfect excuse to step out and explore.

Mish Mash

Mish Mash

A new spot for date night, Mish Mash is a wine and cocktail gastro bar with a good selection of wine and wine-based cocktails. We love their Bubble Butt (Moet & Chandon champagne, jalapeno pickle, lager), Adam & Eve (tomato essence, junmai daiginjo, seed lip garden), and Cocoa Climax (cacao cabernet sauvignon, strawberry dust, vanilla). Being a gastropub, they have delicious food and we recommend their smashed ratte potatoes with bacon, French garlic sausage coppe, Hokkaido pan-seared scallops, and strawberry sensations. Sushi Kawasemi

We’re not talking about yet another place to eat sushi but of a restaurant willing to give you a sushi experience as if you’re sitting in Japan and relishing one. Sushi Kawasemi has an omakase menu and caters to true-blue sushi lovers who prefer authentic edomae-style sushi with raw fish and here they make it with koshihikari rice. Going as far as using fuji water right to grilling seasonal fish over binchotan for mains, this restaurant is here to give you a mouth full of flavour. Image Credit: Sushi Kawasemi Facebook Page

Restaurant Fiz

Botan Ebi

Gaining its name from its owner and head chef, Hafizzul Hashim, Restaurant Fiz is all set to sizzle at Tanjong Pagar. The team focuses on using ancient methods of cooking, celebrating the ingredients, and presenting it with refinement. Relish a slow-cooked quail on a charcoal grill, aged Sea Breem with chef’s sambal tumis that’ll make you want to lick the plate clean, and to sweeten your palate, Kuih Muih. Don’t forget to sip on their Masala Chai after your meal for an enriched experience.

Cat Bite Club

Soju Sprint (Cat Bite Club)

A fun new bar at Duxton Road, Cat Bite Club has opened its door in high spirits and it seems like it's already pulling the crowd with its vibe. The cocktails feature agave and rice and the menu showcases the beauty of each ingredient going into your potent cocktails. We loved (read: may have gotten a little tipsy) on their Queen Park Swizzle (Mt Gay Eclipse Aged Rum, Duppy’s Spiced Rum, citrus blend, mint, aromatics, and bitters) and Soju Sprint (Tokki soju, peach, honey, mint, citrus blend, sherry, and absinthe). They also have a whole bunch of rice and agave spirits so you can have a taste of those as well along with delicious bites like Chicken Chili Bao and Tuna Tostada.

Kagayaki by Ishigaki Yoshida

Dining Area

It’s exciting when a famed restaurant from another country recreates the experience here in Singapore. Coming all the way from Tokyo is Kagayaki by Ishigaki Yoshida offering a cosy space to experience teppanyaki at its best. Watch Chef Nobuyaso Kamiko and his team in action as they bring you an eight-course delight with Chef’s special appetizers, eggs with truffle, scallops with herbed butter, seasonal fish, salad, choice of Ultimate Crispy Yaki Steak or Ise Lobster with Uni Sauce for mains, rice, and a dessert choice of Warabi Mochi or Matcha Ice Cream.

Barrio Spanish Restaurant

Get ready for a night of wine and Spanish tapas at Barrio, a restaurant offering a lively ambience much like its lip-smacking food. Tuck into meaty Croquettes, Pork Belly Pintxos, Beef Steak Tartare, and Hueves Rotos. You can also relish their Iberico Pork Ribs and Charcoal Lamb Rack for a moreish start to your meal or go straight for a plate of seafood paella or seafood fideua (made with short noodles). While they have a fine selection of wines and spirits available, we do recommend giving their heady cocktails a try. Image Credit: Barrio Instagram Page

Plan A Dessert Cafe

Plan A Dessert Cafe

Binging on a chilled, delicious bingsu has always been our Plan A and this hot new place has caught our attention with its variety of bingsus. They have a refreshing Melon Bingsu loaded with fresh melon and we simply can’t get over their Mango Yuzu Bingsu which has roasted almonds, adding an oomph to the flavour. All their snow ice bingsus are made with fresh milk and we highly recommend the ones with fruits. Those who prefer their dessert without fruit can opt for flavours like Oreo, Green Tea Nature, and Cookies and Cream Madness. Image Credit: Plan a Dessert Cafe Instagram
