Esquina

Esquina

Esquina opened in December 2011, this restaurant has been leading the neighbourhood’s Spanish culinary scene. Meet Chef Carlos Montobbio, the Barcelona-born brain behind it all.

The fact that Chef Carlos always conjures up something fresh and intriguing is cool. Esquina, which is literally "the corner" in Spanish, is situated at the intersection of Jiak Chuan Street.

It's a two-story fantasy that transports you to Spain with a blend of rustic and modern feelings. You have an open kitchen below where you can watch the culinary magic take place in front of your eyes.

Consider intimacy and sophistication. Perfect for both private events and group gatherings. So, if you're looking for excellent Spanish food with a twist, Esquina is the place to go. Image Credit: Esquina Facebook Page

FOC Restaurant

FOC Restaurant

FOC Restaurant on Hong Kong Street brought a piece of Barcelona to Singapore back in September 2014! It's an experience rather than merely a restaurant. It is located at a cool, revamped shop house with room for 78 folks.

Think 'Porrons' transformed into hip lights, artistic 'Sagrada Familia' wall decals, and amusing 'Correfoc' (Catalan fire-run) installations in the form of enormous skulls. The establishment is lined with banquette seating, and there is a unique bar counter with 14 seats that is lit by lamps that were specially created from pepper grinders.

The best thing, though? The layout of the open kitchen. It's like a cooking competition! You get to see the chefs and mixologists working together to prepare delicious cuisine and cocktails in front of you.

The cuisine combines classic tapas with whimsically modern dishes made by chefs Nandu Jubany and Juanjo Carrillo, both of whom have received Michelin stars. It's all about premium ingredients and a unique twist on Spanish food, served in a relaxed, stylish setting that shouts Barcelona! Image Credit: FOC Restaurant Facebook Page

Asador

Asador

Want a little Spanish flair? You need look no farther than Asador! It's all about the original Spanish cuisine and cooking style at this restaurant in the hip Joo Chiat neighbourhood.

Do you know what Cochinillo is? Spain's Cochinillo capital is Segovia, where this delectable meal has been made for years. Imagine a delicious suckling pig that is so soft you won't even need a sharp knife to cut it.

The same region provides the Suckling Pig, which receives a specific brine treatment for the ideal seasoning. Then, using a custom stone oven, they work their magic to give it that enticingly golden and crispy finish we all adore.

Next Door Spanish Café

Next Door Spanish Café

Imagine this: One vision, two Spaniards, two dreams. They pictured a location where the cuisine, wine, and culture of Spain would truly come to life. So, a Basque wine connoisseur and an Andalusian chef teamed up.

Chef Houssein Hafian arrived in Singapore in 2013 with the sole purpose of pursuing his passion for Spanish cuisine after developing his culinary abilities at the Gijon cooking school and working for a while in a number of restaurants and hotels.

In 2019, he made the decision to rewrite history and launch Next Door Spanish Cafe. Chef Javier Rejas, a Valencia native, now works alongside Chef Houssein to modernise classic dishes. In this secluded area, it's all about unwinding and enjoying traditional tapas and paellas.

Imagine enjoying those mouthwatering delicacies with a glass of wine or sangria while being serenaded by the seductive sounds of flamenco music. Visit them right away to see for yourself. Just like at home, "como en casa" Image Credit: Next Door Spanish Café Facebook Page 2nd Image Credit

Restaurant Gaig

Restaurant Gaig

Restaurant Gaig, located in the bustling Telok Ayer neighbourhood, is like a piece of Barcelona right here in the Lion City. The Michelin-starred restaurant headed by Chef Carles Gaig, a culinary superstar, now has its first overseas location. He's well-known to those who are familiar with Catalan cooking!

The surprise is that it's a family affair, though. The operation is run by Nria Gibert, Carles' daughter, who also employs executive chef Mart Carlos Martnez, who was trained by her father.

They give vintage recipes—some of which date back more than 150 years—a contemporary twist. Imagine classic recipes with Chef Marti's unique flare and the finest ingredients. It's like a flavour explosion that honours Catalonia's vibrant spirit.

What's being served? Everything! from appetisers to paellas to delectable main courses. Not to mention their renowned Cannelloni recipe, which dates back to 1869. Five generations have passed down this recipe, which is presented with affection and gracious Catalan hospitality. Image Credit: Restaurant Gaig Facebook Page
