In our continuing series highlighting Plastic Surgery procedures in Singapore, Expat Choice caught up with internationally acclaimed Plastic Surgeon Dr. Marco Faria Correa to discuss Rhinoplasty - a surgery to change the shape of the nose.
According to Dr. Marco, beauty is a matter of balance and proportion. Facial Plastic Surgery is all about facial balance. This is especially true when considering changing the shape of one’s nose. It´s not about getting a favourite celebrity´s nose, but a nose to complement the patient´s natural features.
However, sometimes the balance is thrown off after a rhinoplasty surgery because other facial features become disproportionate to the new nose shape which is why often a chin implant is recommended along with rhinoplasty surgery – to ensure a unified facial harmony is achieve in one surgical instance.
The Nose and the Chin are the two features that most define your facial profile, the relationship between the nose, chin and neck determines whether a face looks balanced and in turn well proportioned.
To achieve the best possible facial profile result with Rhinoplasty, the proportions of the entire face must be considered. When a person undergoes Rhinoplasty Surgery to improve the overall shape and appearance of the nose, a receding chin could diminish the overall aesthetic effect of the new facial profile.
If the chin is well defined and proportionate to the new nose, the overall facial profile appearance will be aesthetically enhanced because of the surgery.
Chin Implant, also called Chin Augmentation, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to augment a receding chin or to reshape the chin by enhancement of a silicone implant, to give more projection to the chin and to create facial balance.
Together, a Chin Implant with Rhinoplasty can have a subtle but profound effect on the patient appearance. A combination of Nose Job and Chin Implant can improve the facial harmony and the patient´s overall self-confidence.
Surgically, Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by reducing or increasing the size, removing a hump, changing the shape of the tip or bridge, narrowing the span of the nostrils, or changing the angle between the nose and upper lip. This procedure can incorporate bone, cartilage, skin or all three.
Performing both procedures at the same time, patient will save time and money, as performing two surgeries at once, reduces the costs of the surgery and the recovery time.
Rhinoplasty, also called Nose Surgery, or often referred to as “A Nose Job” by patients, is also a procedure performed to address health issues, such as clearing away nasal blockages interfering with breathing issues such as snoring.
Dr Marco explain that, an important point to consider if a person is contemplating Rhinoplasty Surgery, is whether the nose is too big - or just looks too big, because the chin is too small.
If the nose is fine but the chin is too small, Dr. Marco will suggest a Chin Implant alone will suffice to provide the results the patient is looking for.
If the patient is a good candidate for a combination Rhinoplasty and Chin Implant, Dr. Marco will discuss the types of Chin Implant to best enhance the specific facial contours and complement the patients nose.
In pre-surgery consultations concerning both male and female facial profiles, Dr. Marco’s approached is to assess case by case, to clearly understand the needs of each patient, and to choose the appropriate surgical techniques to achieve a result to complement the patient´s natural beauty and facial features.
Dr. Marco is a pragmatic surgeon who has mastered the traditional open methods by applying the latest techniques for properly concealing the scars in the anatomical folds and crease, leaving inconspicuous scars.
He is a well-versed Plastic Surgeon in the various benefits and limitations of the different procedures and methods available; hence, Dr. Marco will always advise his patients on what are the best options available to achieve the outcome his patients desire – and expect!
